PSYCHOMETRIC TESTING
A psychometric test is one
that measures psychological attributes and is administered, scored and interpreted
in a standardised manner. Many tests are extremely robust and are based on a
great deal of research and piloting.
Psychometric
tests, if used correctly and in the right circumstances, can provide a very
useful tool in the selection process. Often providing quick and insightful
information on a candidate which otherwise may be very difficult to obtain.
There
are of course a large number of tests available, some better than others. However,
the tests that are the most reliable are ones that are only available for use
by persons who are trained and qualified in their use. The British Psychological Society governs
the certification of test users and Psychol
consultants are fully qualified to administer and interpret psychometric tests
to both level A (maximum ability) and level B (personality) tests.
If
the use of a psychometric test is deemed appropriate then Psychol
have access to a wide variety of different types of test which can measure such
things as verbal, numeric and abstract reasoning ability, spatial ability,
mechanical reasoning, clerical skills, personality profiles, career choice,
interests and values, individual and group stress levels, and many more.
Psychometric
tests can also be used as a powerful developmental tool, by providing an
employee with information on their particular strengths and also on areas where
they may need to develop. On many occasions the provision of a personality
profile is the first truly honest feedback some people have ever had.
Psychol
advocates the use of psychometric tests as
part of a process, either as selection, development, counselling etc. We
maintain high ethical principles in their use and only use the appropriate test
in justifiable circumstances. Psychol
can either conduct all your testing requirements or alternatively advice you on
the most appropriate tests for your needs.
