MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT
Psychol
consultants have a wide experience of providing all types of managerial
training and are willing to design and deliver a variety of different events
specific to a customer’s needs. We
specialise in the following areas:
A
team can be any group where individuals depend upon each other to a significant
degree and work towards corporate goals. In reality group output can be substantially less than potential
productivity because of a variety of ‘process losses’, such as poor
co-ordination, poor communication, competing objectives, ‘social loafing’ etc.
On the other hand, teams that work in harmony can increase productivity,
innovation, organisational learning and quality. Therefore, it is of paramount
importance that team members learn to understand others within the same team;
they need not necessarily like them, but must be able to work together. Psychol
offer individual team building events that are designed to reflect an organisation’s
working environment.
Interviews
for selection purposes are notoriously unreliable and suffer from various
biases and pre-conceptions, occasionally compounded by poor interviewing
techniques. How many appalling
interviews can you remember having been subjected to in your career? However, a properly constructed, planned,
objective, selection interview, carried out by trained interviewers can be both
reliable and have validity.
Undoubtedly
there are occasions when interviews are the most cost-effective and appropriate
selection medium. However, they always need to be carried out by competently
trained people in order to be completely effective. Once learnt, these skills
can then be transferred to other areas of management, such as appraisal and
disciplinary interviews etc. Psychol
has the ability to develop your staff’s interviewing skills across the
board. This has the potential to
benefit all parts of your organisation.
Many
managers lack the skills and/or confidence to be able to make presentations to
either colleagues or customers. This often results from not knowing how to
prepare and present material, or from not knowing how to ensure that the
important messages are communicated.
Commonly, some of these problems often stem from an inability to develop
strategies to combat nervousness. Psychol
offers a course that develops an individual’s presentation skills in a safe
environment, allowing self-confidence to grow naturally.
All
organisations benefit from having a highly motivated workforce. However, an individual’s self motivation can
be affected by a wide variety of different factors, including work environment,
stress, personality, attitudes, beliefs, aspirations and so on. In order for managers to be able to motivate
others they must first understand how these elements interlink to produce a
climate of motivation. Psychol
can help managers to understand what motivates them and consequently what is
likely to motivate others.
·
STRESS AWARENESS
There is little doubt that work-related stress is an
issue that is ignored by organisations in the future at their peril. But, what
is stress? Who does it affect? Psychol offer a two day intensive awareness course
for managers to help them understand what stress is, how it can be identified,
what can be the causes and what can be done to prevent it individually and
organisationally. There is a great deal which can be done about stress in the
workplace but If you do nothing else this course will ensure that your
managerial staff will have at least the knowledge to avert problems.
·
SELECTION COURSE FOR MANAGERS
This is a concentrated 3-day course for
managers who are, or who are likely to become involved in any way in the
selection or recruitment of staff.
The
course gives a complete understanding of the various elements within a typical
selection system; job analysis, assessment centres, interviews etc. It explains why they form part of the
process and how they work towards getting the best candidate available.
The interview stage of selection is where most managers have their
greatest involvement. The course provides an understanding of the problems
facing interviewers, but also gives them some practical skills enabling
managers to achieve effective outcomes whilst promoting a positive image of the
organisation.
Upon completion of the course, managers will be able to engage in
the selection or recruitment of staff with confidence, with professionalism and
armed with skills to ensure successful selection of staff. In addition, they
will be well able to defend their decisions against challenge from any quarter,
including Employment Tribunals.
